LOS ANGELES, CA (Mar. 26, 2010) -- The hottest rapper alive is about to hotter. Literally. Jay Z prepared for his headlining spot next month at Coachella with a sold out show at LA's Staples Center.
Part of the Blueprint 3 tour, Friday's show was an epic display of Jay Z's prowess and command of the stage. Although the 2+ hour set was devoted largely to new material, there was a special treat planned for fans of his earlier work.
"Those of you who came just to hear the new stuff, the Blueprint stuff, can leave now and maybe beat traffic, or you can stay and learn something," the rapper declared before launching into a medley of hits off his 1996 classic debut album "Reasonable Doubt".

The Viper Room was possessed on Monday and Tuesday, or rather controlled by a woman possessed. Janelle Monae, the funky r&b songstress, brought her funktified "future" music and tore the place up. On her debut EP, "Metropolis The Chase Suite" she plays the part of Cindi Mayweather, an alien cyborg who is hunted for failing in love with a human. In real life she plays the part of Janelle Monae, an alien who is hunted for making extremely good music that humans dance to. It is hard not to be impressed with this Big Boi protege (he produced both "Metropolis: and the forthcoming "ArchAndroid") as she commands attention, not just with her incredible energy but more importantly her stellar voice. There is no doubt she will return to LA with her brand of alien motown-funk, but it won't be somewhere as small as the Viper Room.
