Los Angeles-May 25, 2010. Stars of Universal Pictures' "Get Him To The Greek" came out Tuesday night for the premiere at the Greek Theater in Los Angeles. The film stars Russell Brand as a rowdy rock god and Jonah Hill as the intern assigned to oversee his safe travel from London to Los Angeles, which is a much larger task than anyone could have imagined. Brand's character is a spin-off from his character in 2008's "Forgetting Sarah Marshall".

Part of the Blueprint 3 tour, Friday's show was an epic display of Jay Z's prowess and command of the stage. Although the 2+ hour set was devoted largely to new material, there was a special treat planned for fans of his earlier work. "Those of you who came just to hear the new stuff, the Blueprint stuff, can leave now and maybe beat traffic, or you can stay and learn something," the rapper declared before launching into a medley of hits off his 1996 classic debut album "Reasonable Doubt".

The Viper Room was possessed on Monday and Tuesday, or rather controlled by a woman possessed. Janelle Monae, the funky r&b songstress, brought her funktified "future" music and tore the place up. On her debut EP, "Metropolis The Chase Suite" she plays the part of Cindi Mayweather, an alien cyborg who is hunted for failing in love with a human. In real life she plays the part of Janelle Monae, an alien who is hunted for making extremely good music that humans dance to. It is hard not to be impressed with this Big Boi protege (he produced both "Metropolis: and the forthcoming "ArchAndroid") as she commands attention, not just with her incredible energy but more importantly her stellar voice. There is no doubt she will return to LA with her brand of alien motown-funk, but it won't be somewhere as small as the Viper Room.

LOS ANGELES (Nov 17, 2009) -- Newly minted rock supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures, completely annihilated the Wiltern Theatre Tuesday night. The Vultures are Dave Grohl from Nirvana/Foo Fighters fame, Frontman Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and one of the greatest bass guitarists ever from one of the greatest bands ever, John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. The music, a blend of dirty bluesy rock, never let up during the course of the 14 song set. The ghosts of Zeppelin past are apparent within the frame work of the Vultures. Both Grohl and Homme have never tried to hide their admiration and respect for Zeppelin in their respective "day jobs" but the addition of Jones takes admiration to a different level. Reinterpretation and continuance, if you will, of the spirit of Led Zeppelin. Basically, this shit rocks...hard...and loud!

From The Streets Of Iran featuring graffiti-based works on paper by urban artists from Iran: ICY, SOT, FRZ, MAD, and CK1.
Crewest Art Gallery, located in downtown Los Angeles, does it again and brings you a most special exhibit from a place where there is very little freedom of anything, let alone expression.
Street art in Iran is most unwelcome by the government and curating this show drew many challenges that are rarely, if ever seen here in the good old U.S. of A. More then two dozen pieces were deemed unsuitable for shipping to the U.S after being inspected by a postal worker in Tabriz, Iran. Due to the political and sensitive nature, Crewest had to exercise caution with added security, major crowd control and inspection of back packs. A small price to pay for beauty and freedom.

The end is nigh-- at least for Trent Reznor's Nine Inch Nails. The penultimate live show of the 20 year old group's touring career took place Tuesday night (9/8/9) at the Henry Fonda Theatre and nearly tore the place down. The nearly three hour set featured songs from the span of the band's career and featured guests Gary Numan, Danny Lohner , Mike Garson and Greg Puciato.

The now 15 year old event featured (mostly) tattooed, action-sport athletes competing in skateboarding, BMX, Motocross, and Rally Car Racing events. Spanish and European Champion, FC Barcelona, traveled to the Rose Bowl Saturday night to face the Los Angeles Galaxy in an international friendly. The match, which drew over 93,000 fans, was the largest attended soccer match in the United States since the 1994 World Cup. The Catalonian side, featuring world class players such as Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry, proved too much for the Galaxy to handle. Winning 2-1 on goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Jeffren Suarez. Embattled Galaxy Midfielder, David Beckham, played in his first match since the incident with a supporter from a few weeks prior at the Home Depot Center. With each touch of the ball, Beckham was showered with loud boos from the largely Barca supporting crowd and with a trademark free kick goal at the close of the first half, silenced many of the boos. The match was the third world class caliber match in Los Angeles within the last two weeks and in all the matches drew almost 200,000 fans to watch the beautiful game.

Israeli (now LA-based) goa/psy/metal trance group Infected Mushroom played to a packed crowd at the Vanguard on Saturday night. The group, which has been touring almost non-stop since 1999--including a stop here just three weeks ago at the Electric Daisy Carnival--is again on the road promoting its new album, "Legend of the Black Shwarma." Unlike most electronic performances, a live Infected Mushroom show is not just someone with a laptop and turntables; featuring a guitarist and live drummer, Infected Mushroom is a dynamic, full-fledged band. The set stretched past the two-hour mark and kept the crowd grooving to influences of nu-metal and New Wave (including a cover of Depeche Mode's "Personal Jesus") until the wee hours of the morning.

CARSON, CA -- The Los Angeles Galaxy faced off in a friendly against Italian powerhouse AC Milan Saturday night. While the match resulted in a 2-2 draw, it was an exciting match throughout, both on and off the field. The match also marked the return of embattled Galaxy superstar David Beckham, who left the Galaxy to play on loan for AC Milan. From the moment he was introduced and each time he touched the ball, Beckham was booed relentlessly by the home crowd. At the end of the first half Beckham had enough and walked to the Galaxy die-hard support club, the LA Riot Squad, and engaged the fans. One supporter jumped onto the field and was promptly apprehended. Beckham later stated "he just wanted to make amends and shake his hand." Off the field antics aside, Beckham was essential to the draw feeding a long pass down field to set up the first goal and taking the corner that drew the game even.

THE LEGENDARY BELMONT TUNNEL
“A Tribute to the Birth of Los Angeles Graffiti Art”
With the influx of Hip Hop culture from the East Coast in the early 1980’s, the graffiti movement began to take shape in Los Angeles. Young graffiti artists began searching for their own voice and spaces to create. One space that became crucial to that development was the Belmont Tunnel. Due to its central location in Downtown LA and open layout surrounded with massive walls, it quickly became the city’s most popular urban canvas. Over the next 20+ years, Belmont became a meeting place for hundreds of developing graffiti artists to hone their craft, settle their differences through graff battles, and pass on codes of ethics to the next generation.
Although the tunnel no longer exists, Crewest Gallery in Downtown Los Angeles helps it live forever with the brilliant exhibition which brought out iconic luminaries in this chosen artistic field.

The Petersen Automotive Museum was the site of the main BritWeek party. Classic to contemporary British cars were on display from Rolls Royce to the Jaguar driven by Steve McQueen in "Bullet." British Invasion cover band Decades played hits from the 70's, 80's and 90's while British motorcycle company Triumph unveiled it's latest motorcycle.

Glitz, glamour and gorgeous gowns abounded at the opening of The Met's Costume Institute "Model As Muse" exhibit opening gala. Supermodels like Heidi Klum, Helena Christensen, Kate Moss, Cindy Crawford, Gisele Bundchen and Bar Rafaeli rubbed bony shoulders with designers, and just about every fashion conscious celebrity in Hollywood like Anne Hathaway, Jessica Biel, Justin Timberlake, Kayne West, Winona Ryder, Victoria Beckham and a very bizarrely dressed Madonna (in thigh-high boots and bunny ear-like head piece).

Corey Helford Gallery feted artist Gary Baseman's new show, "La Noche de la Fusi�n," at its Culver City space. Entertaining the artsy crowd were nearly naked ladies strategically painted by Baseman, fire dancers eccentrically dressed guests--e.g. a gold lame cutout bathing suit under a fuzzy cape.

What better way to spend Earth Day then with a bunch of hippies in Topanga Canyon. Dancing, loving, sunning and praising the moon, the stars, the sun and oh yeah...the earth! Set in the picture-esqe canyon full of oak trees and wafts of ocean breezes, it was the perfect place to gather in celebration to incite awareness of our beautiful earth.

The 20th Annual GLAAD Media Awards recognize and honor media for their fair, accurate and inclusive representations of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community and the issues that affect their lives. The award ceremony took place at the Nokia Theatre LA Live in Downtown Los Angeles. Teri Hatcher, Rebecca Gayheart, Juila Louis-Dreyfus, Jennifer Beals, Kathy Griffin, Dana Delaney, Eric Dane, Alan Cumming and Gus Van Zant are just some of the luminaries lending their star power to the celebration. The Queen of Media Ellen Degeneres along with wife Portia de Rossi didn't walk the arrivals red carpet but they came and represented for GLAAD.
