LOS ANGELES (Nov 17, 2009) -- Newly minted rock supergroup, Them Crooked Vultures, completely annihilated the Wiltern Theatre Tuesday night. The Vultures are Dave Grohl from Nirvana/Foo Fighters fame, Frontman Josh Homme from Queens of the Stone Age and one of the greatest bass guitarists ever from one of the greatest bands ever, John Paul Jones from Led Zeppelin. The music, a blend of dirty bluesy rock, never let up during the course of the 14 song set. The ghosts of Zeppelin past are apparent within the frame work of the Vultures. Both Grohl and Homme have never tried to hide their admiration and respect for Zeppelin in their respective "day jobs" but the addition of Jones takes admiration to a different level. Reinterpretation and continuance, if you will, of the spirit of Led Zeppelin. Basically, this shit rocks...hard...and loud!

Everyone loves a parade! And what makes this one even more special is that it celebrates man's (and woman's) best friend. You have to hand it to their owners outstanding and imaginative creativity, not only were there matching and cohesive theme driven costumes but actual floats! Hey, what is a parade without floats? Not only do over 600 dogs get to strut their stuff but thousands of people get to have fun along the Long Beach Belmont Shores parade route.
To make it an even more special day, there was bulldog kissing booth, tons of vendors with free doggie stuff and the whole event is to raise money for various animal care services and beach clean up. Bow Wow Wow!

In celebration of their 25th anniversary, the Surfrider Foundation hosted a star-studded gala on Friday, October 9, 2009.
The evening, hosted by Mark Hoppus, honors Incubus, Pearl Jam and David Chokachi with Keepers of the Coast awards, which are bestowed upon celebrities who have made significant contributions in helping the Foundation fulfill its mission.
A special performance by musical super group Camp Freddy closed out the evening.
Additionally, the event featured a live auction, “Art For The Oceans III,” showcasing one-of-a-kind art by some of the world’s most revered contemporary artists, including Raymond Pettibon, Shepard Fairey and Thomas Campbell. The artists (25 in all) created a commissioned piece depicting some of the world’s most iconic (and in some cases threatened) surf breaks.

The MSC is the premier competition in the Coalition of Surfing Clubs annual series. The MSA held its first contest at Malibu in 1963 and has been hosting the MSA Classic continuously since 1987. Crewest Art Gallery, located in downtown Los Angeles, does it again and brings you a most special exhibit from a place where there is very little freedom of anything, let alone expression.
Street art in Iran is most unwelcome by the government and curating this show drew many challenges that are rarely, if ever seen here in the good old U.S. of A. More then two dozen pieces were deemed unsuitable for shipping to the U.S after being inspected by a postal worker in Tabriz, Iran. Due to the political and sensitive nature, Crewest had to exercise caution with added security, major crowd control and inspection of back packs. A small price to pay for beauty and freedom.

The night was even for a good cause, benefiting The Elizabeth Glaser Foundation.

LOS ANGELES (8/3/09) -- The pathologically insane jumped, flipped and wheeled around with utter disregard to their bone density this weekend at the ESPN X-Games 15 in Los Angeles. The now 15 year old event featured (mostly) tattooed, action-sport athletes competing in skateboarding, BMX, Motocross, and Rally Car Racing events. Tricks like The Electric Death/Doom, Back Flip 720, Stripper, 360 Flip and more, were put on display by some of the daredevils who helped name them.

Spanish and European Champion, FC Barcelona, traveled to the Rose Bowl Saturday night to face the Los Angeles Galaxy in an international friendly. The match, which drew over 93,000 fans, was the largest attended soccer match in the United States since the 1994 World Cup. The Catalonian side, featuring world class players such as Lionel Messi and Thierry Henry, proved too much for the Galaxy to handle. Winning 2-1 on goals from Pedro Rodriguez and Jeffren Suarez. Embattled Galaxy Midfielder, David Beckham, played in his first match since the incident with a supporter from a few weeks prior at the Home Depot Center. With each touch of the ball, Beckham was showered with loud boos from the largely Barca supporting crowd and with a trademark free kick goal at the close of the first half, silenced many of the boos. The match was the third world class caliber match in Los Angeles within the last two weeks and in all the matches drew almost 200,000 fans to watch the beautiful game.

PASADENA, CA (July 21, 2009) -- English Premier League giant Chelsea FC squared off against Italian Serie A Champion Inter Milan at the Rose Bowl Tuesday night.

The match, attended by over 81,000 fans, was part of the World Football Challenge, a six-city tournament featuring four of the best club teams in the world. It was the first match against his former team for Inter manager Jose Mourinho after his exit from the London squad.

Chelsea's precise passing and stifling defense would prove too much for the Italian side to over come. With a rocket of a goal in the first half by star striker Didier Drogba and a second half penalty goal by Frank Lampard, Chelsea took the win 2-0.

CARSON, CA -- The Los Angeles Galaxy faced off in a friendly against Italian powerhouse AC Milan Saturday night. While the match resulted in a 2-2 draw, it was an exciting match throughout, both on and off the field. The match also marked the return of embattled Galaxy superstar David Beckham, who left the Galaxy to play on loan for AC Milan. From the moment he was introduced and each time he touched the ball, Beckham was booed relentlessly by the home crowd. At the end of the first half Beckham had enough and walked to the Galaxy die-hard support club, the LA Riot Squad, and engaged the fans. One supporter jumped onto the field and was promptly apprehended. Beckham later stated "he just wanted to make amends and shake his hand." Off the field antics aside, Beckham was essential to the draw feeding a long pass down field to set up the first goal and taking the corner that drew the game even.

April 15, 2009 -- Organized to coincide with U.S. Tax Day, conservative protesters staged "taxpayer tea parties" yesterday in over 700 American cities -- their own version of the 1773 Boston Tea Party which helped lead to the American Revolution.

At the top of the Santa Monica Pier, on the corner of Colorado Ave and Ocean Ave, a group of at least 100 hundred demonstrators spent hours waving American flags and signs with statements like "An Obama Nation is An Abomination," "Obama Spoke, Now You're Broke," and "No! To Higher Taxes," while others drove by and blew their horns in support.

The Girlie Girl Catfight Show followed the three Boo's of entertainment success: booze, boobies and booties. And all in great abundance. Created by the minds behind Lucha Va Voom, the Girlie Girl Catfight Show is pro wrestling, burlesque, trapeze and comedy all rolled in to one sexy package. The El Rey was sold out on Friday for the pirate themed show. Sword fights, a strip tease and pirate prop comic Parrot Top all added to the mayhem that had the crowd wootin' and hollerin' for more.

The Los Angeles County Museum of Art presents an installation of BMW Art Cars designed by Andy Warhol, Frank Stella, Roy Lichtenstein, and Robert Rauschenberg from February 12-24, 2009. The cars will be on view in the BP Grand Entrance. LACMA is the first U.S. venue in a major worldwide tour of the cars; they next appear in New York City's historic Grand Central Terminal before heading to a three-city museum tour in Mexico.

An exhibition curated by renown graffiti artist Man One, featuring original pieces created using Sharpies by some of the best known graffiti artists in the country (and beyond). George Clinton, Lalo Alcaraz and Overton Loyd just to name a few and there are plenty involved, way too many to list! Aside from graffiti artists, work by tattoo artists and known illustrators will be on display. This exhibit demonstrates the level of creativity that can be achieved between an artist and his/her most basic tool - The Sharpie. Exhibit runs thru March 1st, 2009 at Crewest located in Downtown Los Angeles.

Celebrity stylist Niki Shadrow and Project Runway's Raymundo hosted the costume contest for best Joker, Batgirl and overall costume. Over $1,000 in prizes were given out throughout the night. "The Joker" was presented by LA.com, Spin PR and RedLight Promotions.
